After the engagement, Monica and I searched for an ideal venue for our wedding. We visited a number of venues, but we could not find a place that offered the range of facilities, ambiance, and services we were looking for.

From the experience of hosting over 300 weddings, I knew the style of wedding which worked really well for everyone, which is to have a relaxing, informal, and friendly bridal breakfast. For us, it was important to have the exclusive use for the whole day so we could have the ceremony, reception with bridal breakfast, and evening party in privacy without a strict time schedule. Also, we needed some accommodation for our families and friends, beautiful gardens, a picturesque building exterior & interior for photographs, easy access & parking area for the guests, and a hot buffet without the table plan so the guests could sit and eat with whomever they liked.

We realised the ideal venue is actually our own home, Woodlands House. Prior to converting the property into a residential house in 2004, it was the most successful hotel and wedding venue in the area.  Our wedding in 2022 was a great success and we had a large number of compliments from our guests as to how wonderful Woodlands house is as the wedding venue and some of them would like to marry at the property in the future.

We love cars and driving around the amazing roads of the borders.  We wanted to share the cars and the local roads with people visiting the Scottish borders.

Thus, we have decided to reopen Woodlands House to host weddings and other events, as well as to offer self-drive tours hiring our cars.
